Achieving this in the oncology setting is the goal of the Cancer Dependency Map (DepMap), developed jointly by the Wellcome Sanger Institute near Cambridge, UK, and the Broad Institute in the town of the same name, Massachusetts. Cancer is a good candidate for precision medicine applications. Because it occurs when previously well-bred cells begin to multiply uncontrollably, usually due to a mutation in their genetic code. Many mutations are likely to have this outcome, allowing for many tailored treatments. DepMap tries to find mutations and cures.
