Auto sales have generally declined amid the coronavirus pandemic. But there is a bright spot. Electric vehicles (EVs) are growing in popularity. Nearly 2.5 million pure electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles were sold worldwide in 2020, according to research firm ihs Markit, which expects the number to grow by 70% this year. Another researcher, Bloombergnef, estimates that about 8% of the 1.4 billion cars on the road will be electric by 2030 and more than 30% by 2040. It's not just about cars.
