Emily Clark's children did not return to class in September, when schools in England reopened to all pupils for the first time since spring. During the UK's first lockdown in March 2020, her three school-age sons, who started remote learning weeks before anyone else, were at risk of contracting Covid-19. However, health concerns were not the main reason Ms Clarke decided to officially withdraw her children from school after six months and tutor them herself. She said they were happier because they no longer had to spend their days in a classroom, and they learned faster with her as their teacher.
