Siina Karbin, a Finnish woman living in Vienna, never imagined that she would pay someone to teach her children. But in early 2020, schools in Austria were closed due to Covid-19. She and her husband struggled to help their 7-year-old son learn remotely while keeping up with his jobs. Ms Carbin enrolled the boy in online one-on-one classes with GoStudent, an Austrian start-up, for several months. A year and a half later, her son is back at school and still enjoys weekly lessons with his tutor. He told his mother he was interested in moving on.
