Few have had as much heart in the protests as Bike Grid Now, a Chicago-based group of cyclists. On an early morning on Oct. 26, about three dozen cyclists gathered outside the Loop in downtown Chicago and rode together to Daley Plaza next to City Hall. Using different types of bikes—from basic bikes from the city's "Divvy" rental program to e-bikes with child seats—they circled the block, splitting into three lanes before stopping at the entrance to dodge traffic clogged. A police officer, also on a bicycle, politely told them they had five minutes to ring the bell and demand a bike lane before he arrested them. Within minutes, the group, mostly white professionals in their 30s, dispersed to workstations in a nearby office.
