Ferries from Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao suspended amid storm

The governor of Surat Thani province said all types of boats in the southern province were ordered to stay ashore due to bad weather, while ferry services on all four routes in the Gulf of Thailand were suspended.

Governor Wichawut Jinto said on Sunday that widespread rain and strong winds in the southern region necessitated rules for staying ashore. The Bureau of Meteorology's 5am forecast warned of big waves in the Gulf of Thailand.

The governor's order prohibits all boats from leaving the coast from 8 a.m. Sunday until an unspecified time on Monday.

Ferry traffic on all four regional routes has been suspended:

Surat Thani - Koh Samui - Koh Phangan - Koh Tao

Don Sak-Ko Samui-Ko Phangan-Ko Tao

Koh Samui - Koh Phangan - Koh Tao - Chumphon

Ratchaprapa Dam in Ban Takhun District

Heavy rain and high winds were reported late Saturday night, leading to flooding in many parts of the Surat Thani-Pomping Highway and a road at Surat Thani Rajabhat University.

All fishing boats reportedly returned to shore after the announcement.
